Family
My husband, Brad, and I have been married since 1985. We have three children.
Dalen, our son, is 16 years old. We have two daughters, Breton 12 and
Kessley 11.
Hi!
My name is April Barr. I am married
with two children and live in the Greencastle area. I have been with Helen's
training program for over six years. I have been training dogs of my own
the previous 8 years.
I live on my Husband's family's dairy farm. Where I have convinced them
that horses and sheep are also great!
I have traveled the east coast to attend seminars pertaining to all aspects
of the canine world. For two consecutive years I attended the Volhard
Training Camp in Connecticut. My experiences include carting ( with my
Rottweiler), agility, obedience and confirmation. My true love is herding
with my Border Collies.
On the other hand, my most rewarding work comes from the dogs that I have rehabilitated
or simply found a new home for when necessary. I am also a professional
groomer here at Good Dog. I currently am a member of the American Border
Collie Association and the St. Croix Hair Sheep International Breeders Association.
Also, an evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test.
Hope to see you on the training field!

My
name is Betty Wathne. I live on a small
farm with my husband and 12-year-old son, where I raise sheep and enjoy riding
and training my Lipizzan horses.
I have been training and exhibiting dogs since I was a youngster. Although
obedience training is my first love, I also participate in conformation, flyball,
agility, musical canine freestyle, retriever hunt tests, sheepdog training,
and occasionally breed my Madcap Irish Water Spaniels.
Through teaching obedience classes at all levels for both competition and companion
trainers, and through training companion dogs professionally for a number of
years, I have had hands-on experience with nearly all breeds and combinations
of breeds. My own breeds that I have earned titles on have included German Shepherd
Dog, Border Collie, Lhasa Apso, Dalmatian, and of course my beloved Irish Water
Spaniels. My Irishers and Lhasa have earned multiple All-Breed and National
Specialty High in Trial awards over the years, and I have finished a number
of my homebred Irishers in the breed ring, including National Specialty and
Group wins.
The hallmark of my dogs' training is their happy attitude. My dogs love to train,
love to compete, and are a joy to train and to exhibit. They are true team players.
I credit the motivational, relationship-based training methods that I use for
my dogs' and for my students' dogs' successes as companions and as competitors.
These methods are both effective and fun; obedience need never be boring for
dog or handler.
While instructing classes, my goals are always the same: happy dogs, happy handlers,
and an improved relationship between dog and handler.
